Come build the future of financial services in Latin America.
Palenca is a well capitalized startup building the first payroll data API for Latin America. We want to allow any worker to share their employment data with any company that needs to validate their income and employment. For example: with Palenca, a Rappi courier can easily use his data to get a lease for a motorcycle.
We are on a mission to cover over 300 million formal employees in Latin America through our single API.
Our co-founders Pepe and Pierre left Uber to start Vech, a company that gave credit to Uber drivers and UberEats couriers. They quickly realized they needed a tool to verify income and employment metrics to correctly determine how much they could lend to each driver, so they built integrations for platforms like Uber, Rappi and Didi. This way their applicants could easily and securely validate employment and income with Vech, instead of messy bank statements or fraudulent screenshots. We were the first users of this product, it worked very well so we decided to commercialize this tool and this is how Palenca was born in 2021.
We were part of YCombinator’s S21 batch and raised a USD $2.6m seed round and later a $1m extension from investors like YCombinator, Gilgamesh Ventures, Foundation Capital and others. We’re based in Mexico City and have operations in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Brazil.
According to the World Bank, there are 302 million formal employees in Latin America. 99 million of those employees are in Brazil. Therefore, establishing our footprint in Brazil is critical for our long term success.
We want to build an outstanding local team that acts and thinks like founders, builds long term relationships with customers in Brazil and helps tailor our product to meet the specific needs of the Brazilian market.
